Are painkillers the best treatment for a fever?

Last week was a busy one at Align 4 Life and as several of our clients were suffering from coughs and colds we have had our diffuser going non-stop. Our default choice of essential oil to diffuse is On-Guard from the Doterra range. It is a blend of oils that supports the immune system and many clients comment on what a pleasant aroma it is (some even mention that it smells of Christmas!). We always encourage clients to come for their adjustments even if they are feeling under the weather as their adjustment will give their nervous system a boost and help with their recovery. This has got me thinking about the symptoms of these nasty seasonal bugs and how we treat them, especially when we have a fever. It’s important to remember that by itself a fever isn’t an illness. It’s usually a symptom of some underlying problem. A fever means the body is in a battle and has “set the thermostat a bit higher,” using temperature to help subdue the microbes and fight viral and bacterial infections. Rushing in to artificially lower the body’s temperature can actually lengthen the time it takes the body to do the needed work. That said, it doesn’t mean you should ignore a fever and take a cavalier attitude, but if you think it is caused by a seasonal bug just think before you reach for the pain killers or other over-the-counter medications to lower your temperature, because it may just be prolonging your suffering!
